The More You Know

I happened across a song today that sounded very familiar, but that I knew I hadn't heard before. After some thought I remembered the original source, and from there the intertron led to a revelation -- a fair amount of the original Doom soundtrack was actually ripped off. The composer, Bobby Prince, created MIDI covers of a number of popular metal tracks (the complete list is here) which became the MIDI we know and love. Here's the example that initially caught my ear:

Maybe you already knew about this, but it was news to me. The E1M1 music is thankfully pretty different from the original Metallica track, but it's still too bad it isn't the genius I'd thought it was. On the plus side, though, it's a great track list.

I don't know why I find this disappointing, but I do.
